Exploring a UML Profile Approach to Modeling Web Services in Healthcare
نویسندگان
چکیده
The Web services paradigm offers numerous potential benefits to the health care area. These include interoperability, portability, scalability, and compliance with universal standards. However, development of large-scale Web services applications in health care is relatively scarce. Multiple challenges are slowing the diffusion of information technology practices in health care, starting with the absence of modeling tools and methodologies that are the bases for building such technology. This article describes a UML profile approach to developing Web services applications in the health care area, emphasizing the use of such extensions as stereotyping and tagging to model the unique elements of health care processing. We apply these ideas to a health clinic example. From here, one can imagine building incrementally upon these ideas to develop frameworks for Web services applications in health care. The benefits would enhance the overall quality of health care delivery and lower costs.

Web service composition is one of the challenging issues that have been studiedover the past years. It consists of combining existing web services to best suit new user requirements. This paper suggests an UML profile to compose web services based on their behavioral aspects. The Web Service Description Language (WSDL) files are first transformed to Unified Modeling Language (UML) models; then ...

The Business Process Execution Language for Web Services (BPEL4WS) provides an XML notation and semantics for specifying business process behaviour based on Web Services. A BPEL4WS process is defined in terms of its interactions with partners. A partner may provide services to the process, require services from the process, or participate in a two-way interaction with the process. The Unified M...

Web service composition is one of the challenging issues that have been investigated over the past decade. It consists of combining and reusing existing Web services to best suit new user requirements. This paper proposes an UML profile to compose Web services based on their behavioral aspects. To do so, the web service WSDL files are first transformed to UML models; then the profile is used to...

The coming of the semantic web and, in particular, the coming of the semantic web services (SWS) technology demands the inclusion of new components in the applications involving semantic web services. So, web development methodologies must be tailored to support the systematic development of such new components. In previous works we have presented an UML profile, which extends the SOD-M method ...
